Matusiak spares Poland defeat

Poland 1-1 F.Y.R. Macedonia
A late Radosław Matusiak penalty saw Poland snatch a 1-1 draw against F.Y.R. Macedonia in the first of their three pre-UEFA EURO 2008 friendlies.

Fringe options
With coach Leo Beenhakker testing out his fringe options with a view to choosing his final 23-man squad for the finals, Poland went behind just before half-time as Goran Maznov tapped the ball into the net after goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak could only push Goce Sedloski's 20-metre shot into his path. The goalkeeper made amends just after the break, however, as he denied Goran Pandev in a one-on-one.

Penalty converted
Matusiak was gifted the chance to equalise after 84 minutes after Igor Mitreski was penalised for a handball in the area. Five minutes later, Dariusz Dudka almost snatched a winner, but Petar Milosevski punched the midfielder's shot over the bar. Poland have another friendly game at their base in Reutlingen, Germany, on Tuesday as they take on Albania. They play Denmark in Poland in their final friendly game on 1 June.
