Anelka shines in final warm-up game
Nicolas Anelka shone for France in training
Chelsea FC striker Nicolas Anelka was in fine form on Wednesday as France played a final preparation match at their training base in Clairefontaine before flying to Switzerland to begin their UEFA EURO 2008™ campaign.
Facing a select XI consisting of Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 players currently out of contract, Les Bleus coach Raymond Domenech gave those who did not start Tuesday's friendly international against Colombia the opportunity to gain some more valuable match practice. Having lost his place in the starting lineup to Karim Benzema the evening before, Anelka reminded Domenech of his quality by scoring a goal in each half, as well laying on another for Bafétimbi Gomis as France won the unofficial match 3-0.
Olympique de Marseille playmaker Samir Nasri also impressed on the left flank, as did Portsmouth FC midfield player Lassana Diarra. Reserve goalkeepers Sébastien Frey and Steve Mandanda played a half each but neither were seriously tested. Domenech and his players left France for Geneva at 18.00CET and will travel directly to their hotel in Vevey. The two-time European champions open their Group C campaign against Romania in Zurich on Monday.
