More Support Surfaces for Sat Radio Merger

As the industry - and everyone else - waits for a decision on the XM/Sirius merger from the Federal Communications Commission, a collection of minority and rural groups voiced support for the deal.

In a letter sent to the FCC this week, the groups told the agency that a combined satellite radio entity would offer "an increasing variety of diverse and unique programming after the merger." They also criticized proposals from merger opponents that want conditions tied to the deal, including a divesture of spectrum.

The Rural Coalition, the National Latino Farmers and Ranchers Trade Association, the Intertribal Agriculture Council and others signed the letter.
