Blowing Wild
(1953) Barbara Stanwyck, Gary Cooper and Anthony Quinn star in Hugo Fregonese's all-action movie set in Mexico's oilfields of the 30s.Passions run high in this sizzling Gary Cooper vehicle, a contemporary western set in the dangerous frontier of the Mexican oil business, co-starring Barbara Stanwyck and Anthony Quinn
Blowing Wild Gary Cooper was top dog in 1953. His performance as Will Kane in High Noon saw him ride off with the year's Oscar to go along with the coveted title of 'Photoplay' magazine's 'Most Popular Male Star'. Here he brings the iconic character's manly morality to the role of Jeff Dawson, an oil-rigger who's struck nothing but bad luck in the Mexican oil rush of the 1930s.

Gentleman's Agreement
(1947) Gregory Peck is Philip Schuyler Green, a magazine writer who, posing as a Jew, encounters the bitter prejudice of the times.Peck is the journalist who poses as a Jew to write a series of magazine articles on anti-Semitism, only to find more prejudice running through all parts of society than he had bargained for. The ensuing melodrama, which draws Peck's family into repercussions resulting from his charade, is often overstated and while this multi-Oscar-winning film was controversial at the time of its release, it now seems overly preachy. A sometimes crude script drives its points home, the cast is excellent and it is interesting at least in as far as it illustrates Hollywood's immediate reaction to the end of the Second World War.

M Night Shyamalan on 'the Happening'
Director/writer M Night Shyamalan talks about his latest eerie thriller, starring Mark Wahlberg.
Mark Wahlberg and Zooey Deschanel star as a couple caught up in the chaos when a suicide-inducing toxin wreaks havoc on the East Coast of the US. From M Night Shyamalan
There's no doubt, M Night Shyamalan is a great ideas man. From the "I see dead people" hook of The Sixth Sense to the crop circle mysteries of Signs, he has an innate ability to plug into alluring concepts. While Lady In The Water sunk without trace in 2006, it's back to business with The Happening.

That Thing You Do!
(1996) Lovingly accurate pastiche of Beatles mayhem written and directed by Tom Hanks.Tom Hanks wrote, directed and starred in this enjoyable nostalgia trip back to the early 60s. A light hearted feelgood with a touch of Happy Days
That Thing You Do! Tom Hanks and Kevin Costner share the James Stewart image, and each used their celebrity to develop pet projects. Whereas Dances With Wolves was an epic cultural tract, That Thing You Do! is a piece of entertaining bubblegum which, like its director, making his feature directorial debut, is high on charm and style.

Under Siege
(1992) Terrorists get more than they bargain for on the battleship they invade: the cook is intent on preventing them stealing the ship's nuclear arsenal.Terrorists get more than they bargain for - because the cook on the battleship they invade used to be a navy SEAL, and he's intent on preventing them stealing the ship's nuclear arsenal
Under Siege 'I have 50 gallons of bouillabaisse to prepare for tomorrow,' says Seagal, at the beginning of this lively and incessantly violent no-brain actioner. And he means it.

All About Eve
(1950) Margo Channing is the acid-tongued star of screen and stage who takes the young, innocent, mousey Eve Harrington under her wing.Bette Davis excels as an aging diva in the six times Oscar Winner. Sit back and 'Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night'
Davis gives one of the performances of her career portraying aging stage diva Margot Channing with a painful air of authenticity: the camp star, still awesome but aware of the ravages of time and the threat of younger actresses snapping at her heels.

The Banger Sisters
(2002) Goldie Hawn and Susan Sarandon star in a dippy comedy as middle-aged former groupies out to rediscover their rock 'n' roll lifestyle.Goldie Hawn and Susan Sarandon star in a dippy but funny comedy as middle-aged former groupies out to rediscover their rock 'n' roll lifestyle
