GTV targets French speaking Africa
GTV has announced plans to extend its coverage into Francophone Africa in early August. The London-based company says that by the end of the year it will be operating in 30 countries including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Cote D’Ivoire, Gabon, Senegal, Congo Brazzaville, Togo and Benin.
Details of the packages are due to be revealed just before the new service goes live, but it is known that the premium package will feature the English Premier League, which starts its new season on August 16. Up to 10 live games will be screened each week.
Since launching in June 2007, GTV’s low cost packages have targeted an audience who have perceived the Multichoice packages to be out of reach. By targeting Francophone viewers it will be moving against the CanalSat Horzions/Multi TV Afrique packages operated by Canal+.
