UPC drops TV5 Monde from digital tier

Following the removal of the analogue feed of TV5 Monde on most of its city networks, UPC Nederland has also stopped distribution of the French language channel on its digital tier following a dispute over payments.

According to the Dutch representative of the channel, the operator is not willing to pay the monthly fee of 0.03 per digital subscriber. Until now, the broadcaster did not require payment from UPC as long as the channel was also carried on analogue. With TV5 now removed from most of the network, the broadcaster required payment for digital.

UPC now only distributes TV5 Monde in analogue in those cities where the local programme council decided the channel should be part of the basic analogue offer.
