Sport TV Africa to launch August 1

Portugal’s Sport TV Africa will launch on August 1 in all of the Portuguese-speaking countries on the continent as well as in 50 other countries in Sub-Sahara Africa.

According to Sport TV CEO, Bessa Tavares, the project is not only a business venture, but also an opportunity to “bring Portuguese speakers closer”. Although no financial details were revealed, he pointed out that it will be a pay-TV venture, with distributor SuperSport deciding on the amount it will charge clients.

The new channel will air content from Portuguese pay-TV channels Sport TV 1, 2 and 3, providing live football from the Portuguese League, the Carlsberg Cup and the Vitalis League. Other sports such as handball, volleyball, basketball, rugby, surf, cycling and boxing will also be featured. Sport TV Africa will be on the air from 18:00 to 23:30 (Portuguese time) Mondays to Fridays and between 15:00 and 23:30 hours on weekends.

Meanwhile, Angola’s public broadcaster TPA presented in Lisbon its new international satellite TV channel, TPA Internacional, which will initially broadcast for Europe, before extending coverage to Africa and the Americas at a later date.
