Thomson Reuters to launch business TV channel

Thomson Reuters is planning to launch a business television news channel to take on Bloomberg and CNBC. The new channel will be available on all platforms including the internet. A start is envisaged early 2009.

In the past, Reuters has denied it was to expand its video news syndication services into its own television channel, but according to a report in the British newspaper Daily Telegraph this policy has now changed. A newly built newsroom in New York City is to house the editorial team. The new venture will create about 50 new jobs.

Thomson acquired the Reuters news agency last year. The company has so far not confirmed reports that it is indeed launching a business news TV channel.
