Mediapro's pay chnl 'after summer'

Jaume Roures, president of Mediapro, laSexta's main content provider has announced its pay-DTT channel will be ready before the next Spanish soccer season starts - meaning just a few weeks’ time.
Roures announced its pay-DTT channel would include soccer content. At the same time he said it would have both national and foreign partners as shareholders.

At the beginning the new digital channel will be firstly offered to cable operators until government approves pay over DTT.

According to the executive the idea is to gather in a single platform different channels with the right licence to offer pay-DTT contents such as Dahlia TV's project that the Swedish company settled down in Spain a year ago. Apart from this sporting TV channel Roures indicated his initiative would possibly include laSexta.

Mediapro's president asked the Spanish government to take "urgent" measures over the change of the DTT law in order to allow broadcasters to offer pay-DTT contents.

"This new model should be included in the new Audiovisual Law and that should be implemented before next Christmas because the broadcasters can’t waste two Christmas campaigns," he said.

Mediapro's pay TV channel will not only have soccer content but also other sports. It will broadcast at least 16 monthly soccer matches at a price of €1 per match. As for the Champions’ League the new channel could very well charge similar fees.
