Magyar Telekom feels fixed-line pinch
The Hungarian incumbent telco Magyar Telekom ended June 2008 with 742,000 broadband subscribers in its home market.
Although the company concedes increased competition in the fixed line sector reduced its revenues in Q2 in Hungary, Macedonia and Montenegro, it points out that the number of ADSL customers in the latter country tripled in the 12 months to June 30, driven by the take up of IPTV services.
However, it provides no indication of how its Hungarian IPTV operation T-Home TV, which made its debut in Q4 2006, is performing.
Overall, Magyar Telekom saw its revenues f grow 2.2% year-by-year to €1.323 billion in H1 2008.
