September 15 launch for MTVNHD

MTV Networks International has announced its first HD network will launch on September 15. MTVNHD will initially broadcast in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Poland and Sweden. It is planned that the 24-hour English language channel will extend to France, Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, the UK, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Venezuela by the end of 2008.

As previously reported in Broadband TV News, the Warsaw-based Emerging Markets Group will operate MTVNHD. “MTVNHD is a great example of how we can leverage the strengths of our global network,” said Bhavneet Singh, managing director and executive vice president, emerging markets, MTVNI. “Basing the new HD channel in Poland recognises Central and Eastern Europe as an increasingly important region that is at the forefront of technological and creative innovation.”

The service will draw on creative talent from production units in Southern Europe, the UK and Latin America. Over 300 hours of bespoke programming has been commissioned for the service that will include content aimed at the MTV, VH1 and Nickelodeon audiences, which will have their own branded block on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
