Nova sport maps out future

The new Czech channel Nova sport, which will replace Galaxie sport on October 4, has spoken about its plans for the future.

In a wide-ranging interview with Digizone, its director Marek Kindernay said that it is prepared to start broadcasting in HD almost right away.

However, the issue of distribution still has to be resolved, with satellite probably ruled out on the grounds of cost.

IPTV is certainly an option, given that Telefónica O2 has already trialled channels in the format and plans to introduce a package of HD channels next year.

In the cable sector, UPC has already expressed an interest in carrying Nova sport.

Kindernay also spoke about co-operation with Slovakia’s TV Markiza – both Galaxie sport, its sister station TV Nova and TV Markiza are owned by CME – and how Galaxie sport will aspire to be like Eurosport, its main competitor.
