Eurosport wins Bundesliga rights
Pan-European sports channel Eurosport will show live games of Germany's national soccer league Bundesliga in selected markets. The broadcaster has acquired the exclusive rights for 22 countries in Northern and Eastern Europe including Scandinavia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Rumania, Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia and the Baltic states.
The agreement covers the three seasons from 2009 to 2012 for the first and second division league. Financial details have not been disclosed.
In the 22 countries, Eurosport 2 will show up to four live matches per week and a weekly highlight programme. Eurosport will screen a weekly one-hour preview of the upcoming Bundesliga weekend and up to ten live games per season in Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden and Iceland.
Further live coverage and video-on-demand services will be offered on the channels' websites at additional charge. The Bundesliga transmissions will not be available in Germany and other markets where the rights have yet to be allocated.
