Viasat launches satellite VOD

Viasat has announced the launch of a new on demand service for its premium satellite subscribers. ViasatOnDemand will use the broadband connection to download movies and series to the hard drive of the ViasatPlusHD.

The premium service launches in Sweden this week, with Norway and Demark being added next week, and Finland later in the year.

“We want to simplify the daily viewing for our subscribers. Finally they get the power to see their favourite programmes when it suits them. You don’t have to go to the video store to rent a movie, as it’s available through the digital box. And the Friday night movie at eight o’clock can be watched anytime,” says Hans Skarplöth, CEO Viasat Sweden.

All the movies currently available on premium channel TV1000 will be available at no extra charge. Other movies and series will be priced between SEK19 and SEK49 per title. TV1000 subscribers can also view content on the PC-based TV1000 Play.

Customers will be able to watch their chosen movie or series immediately, though those with a slower broadband connection may have to wait a short while.
