MTV prepares HD launch

MTV Networks France says it will launch its HDTV service for French viewers on November 6.

MTV in France is part of the CanalSatellite bouquet and the high-def launch coincides with the high-profile MTV Europe Music Awards that will take place that same evening.

MTV, which will be the first music channel to create an HD channel, will start transmissions with around 250 hours of HD native programming. This includes live concerts, shows like its popular Unplugged series, special events like the MTV Awards, as well as music clips and original productions such as HD Exr, which extends its audience to younger kids and family viewers.

MTV will also include a 2-hour block of shows in HDTV from Nickelodeon (Avatar, SpongeBob, Jimmy Neutron) from Nickelodeon every week-end between 8 :30am to 10 :30 am.

MTV HD will be later available on Numericable.
