Northern Bavaria completes digital switchover

On November 25, the northern parts of the German state of Bavaria will complete their digital switchover. On that date, all analogue broadcasts of the three public broadcasters in the area will terminate.

With a symbolic push of a button the Secretary of Economic Affais, Katja Hessel, the Mayor of the City of Nuremberg, Horst Förther, the director of production and technology of the Bavarian Radio Herbert Tillmann, president of the Bavarian Center for New Media, Prof. Dr. Wolf-Dieter Ring, and Eckhard Matzel, Head of Technical Innovation Office at ZDF will take the new digital transmitters on air.

Viewers who still rely on analogue terrestrial reception have been warned with a scrolling text on their screens. Special telephone helplines have been opened to help them with the transition.

In most parts of the areas the digital offer consists of the ARD and ZDF multiplexes as well as commercial muxes from ProSiebenSat.1 and RTL. On the ARD multiplex the regional programmes from MDR will replace those of SWR.
