Dubai Media goes 3G

Dubai, and the United Arab Emirates, already enjoy 20 channels of programming delivered in 3G by telco Etisalat. Now Dubai Media is adding its news, sport and entertainment channels into the mix.

An announcement Nov 23 in Dubai saw Ahmad Al Shaikh, Managing Director, DMI, saying the venture will allow users with 3G-enabled handsets to watch live streaming of DMI programming.

“DMI's sophisticated move ushers in a new era of modern and advanced technology, underscoring our presence as a pioneering broadcasting entity on the local and regional level. We believe the strength of the DMI brand and its status as a global distribution platform are ideal to tap into Arabic-speaking communities around the world. Through our tie-ups with du and etisalat, we seek to offer our viewers an opportunity to stay close to DMI wherever they are, and whenever they wish to.”

DMI’s partners include on-line delivery specialists Jump TV, and the UAE’s second telco ‘du’.

Ali Al Ahmed, EVP/Planning and Strategy at Etisalat, said: “This new service aims to provide our customers with more flexibility to watch their favorite DMI channels. We believe mobile and internet TV mark a step towards the future of content provision in offering a completely unique and brand new experience. There is a huge market for people in need of such services which gives the freedom of accessibility at any given time.”

Al Ahmed indicated that Mobile TV from Etisalat has so far been one of the most successful services offered locally, boasting the highest usage with 300,000 subscribers experiencing the service.
