Decision on Digital+ sale next week

Spain's main media group Prisa will take the decision over the sale of its Digital+ unit next week, according to Prisa's CEO Juan Luis Cebrián.

Prisa's annual shareholders meeting will take place on December 3 in order to decide on the €2,000 million sale of the digital-satellite pay-TV operator.

According to market sources December 15 will be the date when the company will finally decide over the operator's sale.

Telefónica and France’s Vivendi are the two companies remaining in the bidding and they could join together in a joint venture. If Telefónica bought Digital+ with its 2 million subscribers the operation would pose competition problems before Brussels. Telefónica's pay TV business Imagenio already has nearly 600,000 clients.

If Digital+ is not sold Prisa would have to find other formulas to get the necessary funds it needs before a €1,950 million loan expires next March. Prisa values Digital+ at €3,000 million.
