Rapid rise in ITV video views

UK audiences are increasingly turning to online catch-up TV services. The latest evidence comes from ITV, where the rebranded ITV Player has seen the average number of monthly plays rise by 251% since the start of the year.

Up to the end of November there have been 22 million plays, averaging 66,000 a day, but significantly 108,000 in November itself.

The top three catch up shows this year are: Coronation Street, The X Factor and Emmerdale, reflecting some of the network’s most popular shows, and arguably a better reflection of the channels than the BBC iPlayer.

Last week the BBC reported that since its commercial launch on Christmas Day 2007, the online version of the iPlayer has achieved 237 million views (to the end of November).
