Tecteo about to close BeTV acquisition
The Belgian cable operator Tecteo is close to completing the acquisition of the BeTV premium channel business. The operator will pay €20 million for the 33% held by investment company Deficom.
The agreement was originally announced this summer (see Broadband TV News) and received regulatory approval last October. However, Tecteo has to fulfil a number of unspecified conditions before the end of the year before the company can close the transaction.
BeTV, the premium pay TV operator, has about 125,000 subscribers across Belgium to its premium sports and movie channels. Tecteo, the former ALE-Teledis, and Brutélé, are also the owners of the bulk of the Walloon cable operators on which they offer the VOO triple play services.
We suspect the conditions on the sale imposed by the Belgian regulator will include a provision to make the premium channels available to competing platforms such as Belgacom TV and TeleSat DTH.
