Following a call for tenders launched by Team Marketing, TF1 and Canal+ have secured the rights to broadcast football’s UEFA Champions League over the 2009-2012 period.
TF1 will thus broadcast the 13 best matches from the A1 lot of the competition while Canal+ has improved its slate. It will offer 21 additional matches for a total of 33, plus exclusive broadcasts of magazines programming.
Prices paid have not been released but, regarding TF1, the fee would be significantly inferior to the €35 million the network used to pay each season, daily Le Figaro reported on Friday. The group would have saved around €10 million for each of the coming seasons, the newpaper asserts.
