MTV UK trims 80 jobs
The economic downturn is beginning to hit UK broadcasters. The latest to trim its staffing numbers is MTV Networks’ London HQ, which will cut 80 jobs, some 10% of its overall London workforce.
Jobs will go at its Camden production centre as well as its Oxford Street sales and marketing HQ. MTV parent Viacom is looking to trim $250m and 850 jobs from its payroll in 2009.
Officials told staff Dec 18 that an obligatory 30-day consultation period would now kick in. According to reports MTV is also looking to outsource more production to the independent sector and again save cash.
