Canal+ signs DTH deal with Orange
Canal+ Group and operator Orange have signed a multi-year agreement that allows Orange to offer its triple-play DTH subscribers Canal+, CanalSat channels and Foot+ via the Astra satellite.
Catch-up TV services from Canal+ and CanalSat, already accessible via PC, will also be soon available on TV to all Orange TV subscribers.
In the course of 2009, all Orange DTH subscribers will receive Canal+’s channels directly from one hybrid ADSL/Satellite decoder provided by the operator. Orange TV offer proposed to DTH subscribers via Astra (see separate story) will thus be very close to that available on Orange’s IPTV platform.
This enlarged agreement comes after Orange seized regulatory body CSA last December to complain about Canal+’s refusal to let news channel I-Télé and Canal+’s unencrypted programming broadcast via the satellite package. At that time, Orange had pointed out the prejudice for its DTH subscribers as those two channels were available on other platforms.
