SABC wants to go global
South Africa Broadcasting (SABC) is looking to expand its international channel beyond Southern Africa.
According to reports from Johannesburg, public broadcaster SABC is already in talks with European, US and African pay-TV operators in an attempt to boost its audience and win new revenue streams. SABC has correspondents across the globe, with bureaus in countries such as the UK and the US.
SABC is also in discussions with local subscription broadcaster MultiChoice to add SABC International to its bouquet. Both MultiChoice and the SABC have reportedly confirmed that talks are under way. Although the international news channel is generating income for SABC, it has yet to break even.
