IPTV 'to grow three-fold'

“Not even a global financial meltdown can stop IPTV,” states research group In-Stat, boldly predicting that by the end of 2012, subscribers to “telco TV” will grow more than three-fold.

With only a few markets, including Japan and Argentina, still hamstrung by restrictions hindering incumbent operators, a number of countries saw the launch of commercial IPTV offerings in 2008. These include places as varied as Montenegro, Jordan and Ghana. Several key markets, including Brazil, Korea and India, have seen regulatory changes giving IPTV a boost in recent months.

In-Stat forecasts subscribers to IPTV services worldwide will grow to just under 72 million by the end of 2012 with revenues at US$26.6 billion.
