February 15th, 2009
Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has severely reprimanded deputy minister of culture, TV and Radio Broadcasting Shadurdy Alovov, who is also the head of the Main TV Directorate, “for failing to perform his official duties and for failing to ensure broadcasting of TV programmes in a timely manner and with high quality.”
Speaking about development of national culture at a government meeting on 10 February, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that national TV plays an important role in this sphere. “TV programmes should be distinguished by genuinely creative approach. There should be no stock phrases. It is necessary to focus on raising the quality of TV programmes and their conformity to the spirit of the time and requirements of society,” the president said.
