RTL eyes DTT in Leipzig and Halle
The German RTL Group is looking at the possibility to acquiring a DTT multiplex in the cities Leipzig and Halle and environs in central Germany, according to local press reports. The regional media authority will open applications for a new multiplex.
Following the new of the launch of an encrypted multiplex in Stuttgart, RTL said it is actively be searching for more opportunities to launch similar terrestrial services. RTL will launch its main commercial channels in the city in Q3, broadcasting in MPEG-4 and employing Conax CA. Reception will be free-to-view, but in addition people may be able to buy a subscription to two RTL pay channels.
The move sparked discussion if RTL is now setting a standard for encrypted DTT broadcasts in the country using Conax and MPEG-4.
