Fastweb inks new on-demand deal with Sony Pictures


Italian telco Fastweb has signed a new distribution deal with Sony Pictures Television International (SPTI) to offer new on-demand content to subscribers to its IPTV service 'Fastweb TV'.

The agreement covers classic American series such as Charlie's Angels, Starsky & Hutch and The Jeffersons, recent TV series such as The Shield, Rescue Me and Strong Medicine, and on the film channel, viewers will have access to SPTI films such as Hancock, Spiderman 2 and Gandhi.

"Through this new agreement, Fastweb TV can really say that it has the best offer on the market of international television series and Italian drama, on-demand."

Fastweb was one of the first European operators to introduce IPTV, in 2001, and although the operator releases very little IPTV subscriber data, according to Informa Telecoms & Media it targeted 350,000 subscribers by end-2008. Fastweb is present in 160 urban areas across Italy, covering more than half the population.
