Taiwan to host next indigenous TV conference

The next biennial conference of the World Indigenous Television Broadcasters Network (WITBN) will take place in Taiwan in 2010. The conference - to be called Taiwan ‘10 - will be jointly hosted by Taiwan’s Public Television Service (PTS) and Taiwan Indigenous TV (TITV) in Taipei in March 2010.
The theme of Taiwan ‘10 will be ‘Facing the Challenge of the Digital Age for Indigenous Media’. A spokesperson for WITBN said the aim of the conference is to exchange experiences of the operation and development of indigenous broadcasting and to encourage interaction among the indigenous media worldwide.
“A special feature of the event will be a film festival which will showcase the wisdom of indigenous people and the preservation of a sustainable environment’” she said.
New Zealand’s national indigenous broadcaster, Maori Television, which hosted the 2008 WITBN conference, has been appointed the secretariat organisation of the WITBN until Taiwan ‘10.
