Technical ineptitude and the high cost of set-top boxes are the main obstacles likely to be faced by DTT in Poland, according to Anna Strezynska, the president of the country’s Office of Electronic Communications (UKE).

Speaking at the Poznan Media Expo and quoted in Wirtualne Media, she added that a sizeable part of the population would require technical assistance in switching their reception equipment from analogue to digital.
She also predicted that the cost of digital set-top boxes would fall from around PLN400 (€84.6) to PLN250.

Poland’s National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) has already estimated that PLN400 million will be required in set-top box subsidies for the most needy citizens.
