Telefonica grows TV interest

Telefonica took its number of pay-TV customers to over 2.2 million in 2008. The Spanish Telco added 109,500 subscribers on the last quarter and 519,500 over the 12 months as a whole.

The vast majority of TV subscribers are in Latin America, though not all of the 1.5 million subscribers in Peru, Chile, Colombia, Brazil and Venezuela are actually connected over IPTV.

In the Spanish domestic market the number of pay-TV subscribers topped 612,000, an increase of 19.8% year-on-year, after adding 101,407 subscribers in the fourth quarter alone.

In the Czech Republic the number of subscribers connected to O2 TV increased by 41,331 in 2008 and by 6,435 in the quarter to reach 114,496 at the end of December.
