Unitymedia acquires cable networks

Germany's second-largest cable company Unitymedia is expanding its reach in the regional state of Hessen, having acquired the networks of smaller competitor KfGW GmbH in the cities of Groß-Gerau, Weiterstadt and Büttelborn. Financial details were not revealed.

After upgrading works and network integration Unitymedia will be able to supply the three cities near Dortmund with a triple-play offer from the end of April. More than 24,000 KfGW households will then be able to subscribe to digital TV, internet access with a data rate of up to 32 Mbit/s and a telephone connection with a flat rate for German fixed-line numbers from €25 per month.

Altogether, Unitymedia has more than 4.6 million customers in North Rhine Westfalia and Hessen, of which 1.2 million have a digital cable connection.
