Deutsche Telekom expands IPTV platform

German telco Deutsche Telekom is expanding the IPTV platform T-Home Entertain distributed on its broadband networks, with a number of new content offerings.

High-definition channel MTV Networks HD will join the package in summer. The pay-TV service, which will be offered for the first time in Germany, screens music, entertainment and children’s programmes from MTV Networks channels such as MTV, VH1 and Nickelodeon.

A second newcomer to the platform is entertainment channel TNT Serie, which will be available from May. The subscription broadcaster, which shows international comedy and drama series, was launched in Germany at the end of January. The channel is already available on pay-TV platform Premiere and on the cable networks of Kabel Deutschland and Kabel BW, with further platforms expected to follow.

Also new is video-on-demand service “TV Selection”, offering T-Home Entertain customers episodes from US series such as Desperate Housewives, Lost, Scrubs and Grey’s Anatomy for a flat fee of €9.99 per month.

T-Home Entertain, offered via ADSL2+ and VDSL lines, currently has around 500,000 subscribers, with a million expected by year-end. To boost subscriber numbers, from 9 March the package will be offered to new customers from €44.95 per month - €5 less than previously.
