France: Mobile TV hopes for a 2010 launch

Between telcos and content editors, talks to work out the business model of personal mobile TV and the way the network will be financed are so hard that French government has named TV producer Cyril Viguier as mediator to make parties agree.

Viguier, a former head of programming of at Cinquième (France 5’s former name) who also launched The Surf Channel and Malibu TV in the US has just two months to succeed. The TMP project has been much delayed and the French government announced on Tuesday that an agreement must be reached before the end of April.

Initally planned in 2007, mobile TV will not be launched in France at least before 2010, first in a few selected cities before being extended.
