German motor manufacturer Mercedes has launched a limited edition model for the Italian market that enables the reception of mobile TV.
The Mercedes Classe B Special Edition, of which only 500 units have been produced, has been realised in collaboration with pay-TV operator Sky Italia and with the support of portable navigation device manufacturer Garmin.
DVB-H reception has been integrated in the new Garmin Nuvi 900 T GPS receiver that permits owners of the Classe B Special Edition to receive 14 Sky mobile TV channels, as well as Rai, Mediaset, Boing, La3TV, La3Sport and La3Live. Purchasers who buy the car before March 31 will receive, free of charge, a one-year subscription to Sky Italia, both at home and “on board”. Subsequently, the kit will be available as an optional for around €700. For security reasons, the system excludes video images when the vehicle is in gear.
