New blow for NetCity

The controversial Romanian NetCity fibre-optic project has suffered yet another setback.

ZF reports that the country’s Competition Council (CC) has ruled that the draft of a new act (General Council of Bucharest – HCGMB Nr252/2008) related to the location of underground electronic communications equipment will have to be amended as it is uncompetitive.

The CC’s stance has received support from ANCOM, the recently restructured National Authority for Communications (ANC).

NetCity, which has been criticised by not only the Romanian cable industry but also the EC since its inception in 2006, envisages the construction of a fibre-optic network in the Romanian capital, Bucharest.
