Spanish fibre optic change

Spainís government wants all homes and businesses to be connected to a fibre optic network as soon as possible in order to distribute as many multimedia digital services as possible. So now the government has approved a law that makes flexible the development of networks by deleting the demand for 'tele-charging'.

This demand obliges operators to distribute electricity from headends in case there were blackouts in the users' homes. The government has given the green light to delete this obligation in case different technologies to coppers were used, as for instance fibre optics does not allow the transmission of electricity from the headends.

At the same time the government will also simplify the proceedings for the extension of the dates for the distribution of the connection to the network passing from the public beaurocracy to a more direct one between the operator and the user maintaining all guarantees.
