Worldwide audience up in 2008

Worldwide, viewers watched television for one minute more in 2008 than in 2007 and largely followed sport and drama programming.

According to Médiamétrie’s Eurodata TV annual study, viewers from the 70 countries covered on average spent 3 hours and 8 minutes daily watching TV last year. Growth in viewing compared to 2007 reached 4 minutes in North America at 4 hours and 32 minutes, and 29 minutes in the Middle-East at 4 hours and 22 minutes.

Leading programming remained sport, and mostly football with 14.5 million viewers in Spain for Euro 2008 final match. Sports shows topped the ratings in 13 out of the 70 countries covered and were among top ten ratings in 39 countries. Drama series were also among the most viewed programmes followed by soaps and telenovelas, that still dominate in Latin America.
