Nick Jr. reveals German launch date

MTV Networks will launch its pay-TV channel Nick Jr. in Germany on March 31.
The 24-hour service, aimed at pre-school children aged from three to five years, will initially be available in the subscription package Digital TV Kinder (Digital TV Children) offered by cable operator Unitymedia in the regional states of North Rhine Westphalia and Hessen, with further platforms expected to follow. The advertising-free service evolved out of the Nick Jr. window screened on free-to-air channel Nick (Nickelodeon outside Germany) each morning.
“The content of Nick Jr. is educational, entertaining and free of violence,” said Oliver Schablitzki, vice president channel & brand management of Nick. “After the successful development of Nick in Germany the focusing on pre-school children with Nick Jr. is the next logical step in the expansion of our brand portfolio.”
In Europe Nick Jr. already reaches more than 10 million subscribers in the UK, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Scandinavia, amongst other countries. In mid-January MTV Networks announced the expansion of the channel into Germany.
