UK-based TV production company Shine Group is expanding to Germany.

Shine Germany will commence operations in July with Axel Kühn as CEO. The former programme director of commercial channel RTL II will develop original formats for the German market as well as making use of the parent company’s substantial international catalogue. Two offices will be opened in Munich and Cologne. The company’s executive producer and vice-CEO will be Holger Rettler, former head of the Cologne subsidiary of TV production company Tresor TV.

Shine Group is backed by Elisabeth Murdoch, daughter of international media entrepreneur Rupert Murdoch. The 40-year old founded the company in 2001 and has developed it into one of the leading independent production groups with programmes such as Masterchef, Merlin, The Biggest Loser, Battle of the Brains and Build a New Life in the Country.

Further international subsidiaries are planned in France, Italy, Spain, Scandinavia and Australia following the company’s launch in Germany.
