Dolce rollercoaster ride continues

Romtelecom more than doubled its pay-TV subscriber total in 2008, its DTH service Dolce ending the year with 643,000 subscribers, or 390,000 more than 12 months earlier.

The 65% increase was bettered by that in the number of subscribers to its internet service Clicknet, up 81% to 650,000 over the same period.

All told the Romanian incumbent telco gained over 500,000 new subscribers to its DTH and broadband services in 2008.

Its revenues in 2008 were relatively stable at €869.8 million, compared to €871.9 million in the previous year, while EBITDA fell from €300.6 million to €291.6 million.

Romtelecom, which is backed by Greece’s OTE and ultimately Deutsche Telekom, plans to launch an IPTV service later this year.
