Amazon offers music downloads in Germany

Online book store Amazon has extended its music download service Germany. Until now the service, which competes with Apple’s iTunes, Deutsche Telekom’s Musicload and other download portals, was offered by Amazon only in the USA and the UK.

The online shop Amazon MP3 contains more than 5 million titles without DRM protection which can be played on any computer, MP3 player including the iPod and multimedia mobile phones with MP3 functions. Album prices start at less than €5 while individual songs are available from 77 cents. Titles can be downloaded directly onto the computer and then transferred onto a portable player.

Songs are available from all four large music companies – EMI Music, Sony Music, Universal Music and Warner Music – as well as independent record labels. All genres are covered from pop, rock and alternative to classic, jazz and R&B, to hip hop, electronic and dance. New titles are added daily.

Launches of the service in further countries are expected to follow.
