Playboy channel fined for rude content
by David Allen
The satellite channel Playboy has been fined by the regulator Ofcom for breaching rules that govern the transmission of adult content on seven occasions, in September, November and December in 2007.
The Playboy One channel was launched at the end of 2005 and was the only free to view service on the Sky electronic programme guide.
Even though the channel has been closed down, this has not saved the channel owners from being fined £22,500 for the offences.
Ofcom received complaints about a series of films that were shown between 11pm and 3.30am.
The content was ruled as being unacceptable for broadcast on a free to view channel.
Playboy said that because the Sky EPG has PIN protection and channel removal options, these should have been enough safeguards to protect the viewers.
