Sony quits IBC

Sony’s Professional equipment division has pulled out of the upcoming IBC trade show. Sony’s huge stand has been a fixture at IBC for years, and its departure will leave a massive hole to be filled – and no doubt disappoint IBC’s visitors. There’s also no commitment towards 2010.

Last year Sony Professional created its new Star Programme which will see the company build on last year’s ‘EXperience’ campaign designed to bring Sony kit closer to users via a number of smaller events.

"In the current economic climate, we believe that we should be investing money directly in our customers and taking our message and solutions to them rather than relying on them coming to us," said David Bush, Sony Professional’s director of marketing, speaking to TVB Europe.

IBC’s arch-rival show, Las Vegas-based NAB is still getting support from Sony.
