Ziggo rolls out on-demand
The Dutch cable operator Ziggo has launched on-demand services on its entire network. Until now, they were only available on the former Casema parts of the network.
Ziggo is the country’s largest operator, with over 3.2 connected homes and over 1.1 million digital subscribers. However, viewers will need to buy a new set-top to access the service.
There are currently two manufacturers with available product, namely Samsung and Cisco. Cisco offers an HD PVR for €459, while Samsung has an HD tuner for €359.
Ziggo offers the set-tops for €130 and €90 respectively for people who take out a 2-year subscription to all the on-demand services for €16.95 a month.
The operator has signed a number of on-demand deals, including ones with Disney and Warner Bros. With the latter, Ziggo will offer selected titles on a Day & Date basis. The price per title varies between €2.95 and €7.95. After purchase each title is available for unlimited access during a 24 hour window.
Ziggo also offers a number of S-VOD services including Net Gemist, with programmes from the three Dutch public broadcasters and the three SBS channels SBS6, Net 5 and Veronica. Stand-alone price for this service is €4.95.
Ooit Gemist offers selected programmes from a number of channels. It is available free of charge to subscribers of extended digital tiers.
Wedstrijd Gemist offers games from the Dutch Eredivsie Live channel in replay, which cost €6.95 per game.
TV-theek offers a few hundred library movies and older TV series, which are available for a monthly fee of €9.95. A complete subscription package is available for €16.95 a month.
