New TV transmitters to broadcast TRT-1 in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijanís Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies has announced that six transmitters presented by Turkey each with power of 5 kW, and one transmitter with power of 2 kW, have been installed in Baku and Ganja cities as well as Lerik, Danachi, Gulustan, Guba and Poylu.
The transmitters were presented by Turkey based on the protocol on cooperation in the field of TV broadcasting and the agreement on technical service concluded between the Azerbaijan Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies, Azerbaijan National TV & Radio Broadcasting Council and the Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency .
The documents were signed on 24 January, 2008. At the same time the term of agreement on broadcasting TRT-1 Turkish TV channel on Azerbaijanís national frequency has expired, and talks on prolonging the arrangement are ongoing. Under the agreement between Azerbaijan and Turkey, if neither the party expresses any objection the agreement will be automatically prolonged.
