Russian will switch off all analogue broadcasts in 2015, according to Igor Schegolev, the minister of Telecommunications in a speech in the parliament Douma.
Digital transition will first begin in the border areas because of international agreements. All current high powered transmitter sites using the old SECAM standard will be closed down.
The country also depends on satellite distribution and DTH reception in remote areas is widespread. Already all major Russian channels are available digitally on satellite, including the main Channel 1 Russia (Pervy Kanal).
