Viewers to Freesat have voted BBC HD as the Channel of the Year in the platform’s inaugural Freesat Awards. The channel was praised for its “ ever-growing variety of quality drama, comedy, sport and natural history”.

Awards were given in nine categories covering broadcast, retail and technology in a presentation at London’s Pigalle Club, sponsored by Astra, and judged by an industry panel.

Humax was the recipient of Product of the Year for its Freesat+ personal video recorder, while John Lewis was named as Multiple Retailer of the Year.
Channel awards also went to BBC Four, radio station Planet Rock, PopGirl and Wedding TV.
