Astro adds new Indian, Malay fare

Malaysia’s Astro has added three new channels to form a new package, called the Astro Mustika Pack, including one of India's most prominent television brands.

Costing RM12.95 per month, the new package offers three new channels, one of which is being provided by Indian media group B4U Television Network. B4U will be a mixture of the company’s two Indian services, B4U Movies and B4U Music, subtitled into the Bahasa Malaysia language. The channel will offer Bollywood fare.

Sunil Rohra, CEO of B4U Network said: “B4U is proud to join forces with Astro and we intend to create a market for Bollywood in Malaysia. The hybrid B4U channel will show the best of Bollywood movies and music and exemplify the quality of B4U content.”

The two remaining channels, Astro Warna and Astro Cita will offer comedy and movies/drama series respctively.

Astro’s parent company, Measat Broadcast Network Systems, plans to up its content investment this year to about RM1.1 billion, 10% more than last. The platform has some 2.65 million subscribers, 45% penetration of Malaysian TV homes.
