Magyar Telekom integration continues

Magyar Telekom’s board of directors has proposed to merge the company with its subsidiary T-Kábel, the country’s second largest cable operator.

The move, which is likely to produce annual savings of up to HUF1 billion (€3.58 million), will mark the latest stage in an integration process at the Hungarian incumbent telco that began three years ago.

T-Kábel ended Q1 with 505,000 TV subscribers, with growth being largely driven by its DTH platform T-Home Sat, launched in late 2008, and to a degree its IPTV operation T-Home TV.

T-Kábel’s take-up has remained relatively constant, at around 415,000-420,000 subscribers, for some time.
